Endometriosis is a benign yet progressive disease of woman’s lower abdomen which only rarely kills but can cause crippling pain and childlessness.Upon this background, Endometriosis Society India has been established in 2003 under the leadership of Dr. B.N Chakravarty and Mr. Pramathes Das Mahapatra with their five other colleagues. It is a voluntary, non-profit organisation presently with about 150 members from all over India.

We are regularly organizing Public Awareness Programmes among teenage girls; public awareness meets for patients and their relatives. We involve ourselves in research activities in collaboration with national level scientific bodies and international scientific meets. We have our own newsletter – Endoinsight to spread our message across the country.
There are four stages of endometriosis: minimal, mild, moderate, or severe endometriosis
The most popular theory is a back-flow of the menstrual blood with sheded endometrium from the uterus into the abdominal cavity through the fallopian tubes.
Pain in the lower stomach before, during and after the periods is the classical symptom of endometriosis.
Unfortunately there is no sure cure by medicines. However, the disease can be arrested in most of the cases by taking hormones which stop menstruation.
The principal objectives and activities of Endometriosis Society India to create awareness about Endometriosis are:
Education, training and promotion of knowledge of the members of the medical fraternity.
To invite delegates from India and abroad to various programmes for updating the knowledge
To advice and guide the Central and State Government on the different Acts related to control of the disease of endometriosis.
To publish a journal under the name ‘Endometriosis’.
Development of an optimum consciousness on endometriosis among the women in the reproductive age group.
To serve as a forum for exchange of ideas and experience and collection of information on endometriosis
